These vans are a valuable tool for rapid transit of goods up to around 1100kg throughout the UK and Europe and we can usually load within around two hours of any major European town or city. See the vehicle sizes on this page to gauge if your goods will fit in a single vehicle. Same day and next day pallet transport is available though our network of couriers and hauliers with prices typically ranging from £90 – £500 for UK work. Our Luton vans are long wheel base vehicles with a hard sided box fitted to the back (they are sometimes called a box van). Our vans all have a tail lift (as shown below) which can lift up to around 1000kg / 2,200Lb and are available for express and dedicated loads throughout the UK and Europe. They can load 4 – 6 pallets (and many more cartons) however they are not suitable for heavy loads. The GVW (gross vehicle weight) allowable for a Luton van is 3.5 tonnes meaning our vehicles can load around 1,000 – 1,200kg maximum. For heavier loads see our other vehicles.
Sometimes pallet networks are just not fast enough to get your pallets delivered, especially if you need same day or next day pallet van delivery to Europe or the UK.
We can usually load within two hours of most urban areas in the UK and Europe. Although it is a premium service sending a quick pallet van to Europe is not as expensive as you may think generally ranging from between £500 – £1800 depending on the distance.
Whilst there is some variation on the dimensions of Luton vans (models vary in length, with and weight depending on the manufacturer), the specifications below are a good indicator of their general proportions and loading capacity.

Luton vans are ‘rigid’ as opposed to ‘articulated’ meaning that the cab and the body/chassis are a single structure and that the box and rear axle cannot be separated from the cab, engine and front axle (unlike an ‘articulated’ lorry where separate trailers can be attached to the cab or ‘tractor’ unit at the front). They have two axles (one front and one rear) and are generally classified as a small lorry.
The quick answer is yes; most people can drive a Luton van without the need for additional testing however there are several variables when it comes to what vehicle you may or may not be entitled to drive so it is worth being fully aware before you hit the road to avoid any unwanted attention from the traffic police. An online checker is available so you really have no excuses (you will need your driving license number and national insurance number to hand).
If you passed your driving test before 1st January 1997 you are entitled to drive a Luton van (and bigger) without the need for additional testing. To verify you can use the online checker mentioned above or you can check the rear of your license.
If you passed your driving test on or after January 1st 1997 you can drive vehicle up to 3,500kg (sometimes called 3.5 tonne van / 3.5 ton van). If there is a to and from date next to the category B you can legally drive a Luton van (assuming the valid to date has not passed).
For continental land transit the hauliers liability to you, the owner of the goods, is calculated at around £8 per KG. Additional insurance up to £10k coverage can be purchased for £20, and for higher value goods we will provide you a bespoke quotation.
As the roads and ferries can be unpredictable we do not guarantee delivery timescales however we do work hard to ensure rapid transit where required.
Yes. To ensure smooth transit it may be necessary to discuss access and timings with our service personnel and we can ensure that a tail lift vehicle is used where required.
'Standard Pallets' are 120x100cm and 'Euro Pallets' are 120x80cm. Anything bigger than this would be classed as oversized or if your goods overhang the pallet (not recommended unless the goods are sturdy) it would also be classed as oversized. If possible it is best to keep the height to a maximum of 220cm as anything taller may not fit through the doors of many standard vehicles. Our oversized pallet quotes are calculated on the exact measurements of your load so you will not pay for more space that you use.
Typically 5 working days is a good rule of thumb for most western European countries.
For domestic pallets and Exports, we can sometimes collect same day If booked before 10am. On most occasions though collection will be next working day and for Imports it is best to allow 2 days.

If your goods can be moved by hand (small and lightweight) or by forklift then it may not be necessary to put them onto a pallet. Typically though a pallet is essential for transit.
